What neighbors say.

Real reviews from homeowners, straight from our Google listing.

  • My ceiling had water spots so I reached out to Next Gen, and they found the problem with a leakage in the roof connecting to the house. Anthony came and fixed it within 2 hours and was significantly better in price + quality than any of the other people we had looking at it. They will be my go-to for a while, as well as for my friends and family, and Anthony is especially kind!

Vents we put in

  • Ridge vents along the top of the roof
  • Soffit vents under the roof edge to let fresh air in
  • Baffles that keep insulation from blocking the soffits
  • Box vents on roofs where a ridge vent will not work
  • Replacing a noisy or broken attic fan with passive vents
  • Vents added when a new roof goes on

Intake and exhaust

An attic needs air coming in and air going out, in balance. Intake vents sit low, usually in the soffits under the roof edge. Exhaust vents sit high, along the ridge or near it. A roof with a ridge vent but no working soffit vents, or soffit vents with nowhere for the air to go, will not vent properly however many vents are on it. When we add venting, we look at both ends.

Ridge vents and soffit vents

On most shingle roofs, a continuous ridge vent paired with soffit vents is the most effective setup. The ridge vent runs along the peak under a row of cap shingles, so it is barely visible from the street. Soffit vents go in under the roof edge, and baffles in the attic keep insulation from smothering them. Roofs with short ridges or hips sometimes need box vents instead.

The inspection and the quote are free

We come out, get on the roof, and tell you what we found and what it would cost to put right. There is no charge for that visit, and you are under no obligation to book the work.

Best done with a new roof

The easiest time to fix attic venting is when a roof is being replaced, because the ridge is already open and the roof edge is exposed. If you are planning a new roof, ask us to look at the venting at the same time. Venting can also be added to an existing roof, and we will give you a free quote either way.

Common questions.

Can you add a ridge vent to my existing roof?

Often, yes. We cut a slot along the ridge, put in the vent, and cap it with matching shingles. It works best when there are soffit vents for air to come in.

Are powered attic fans better than vents?

Not usually. A fan can pull cooled air up out of the house through ceiling gaps. Balanced passive vents are the more reliable choice for most homes.

How many vents does my attic need?

It depends on the size of the attic and how the roof is shaped. We work it out during the free roof inspection.
