How attic venting works
Good attic venting is a steady flow of outside air. Cool air comes in low, through vents in the soffits under the roof edge, and warm, damp air leaves high, through vents at or near the ridge. That flow carries summer heat out before it cooks the shingles, and carries moisture out in winter before it turns into frost and mold on the underside of the roof. It only works if both the intake and the exhaust are there and clear.
